Vintage Tie Tacks

Century 21 - 1962 Seattle World's Fair Pin

1962 Seattle World's Fair Tie Tack in Original Packaging

The World's Fair took place in Seattle, Washington in 1962, was named "Century 21," and the theme was the future.

This swell "21" logo tie tack or lapel pin was sold at the fair. Still in its original packaging, just as the day some lucky Seattleite brought it home.

Made by the Leavens Manufacturing Co., Inc. in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Measures 1/4" inch wide by 3/8" tall.

Click on photo at left to see packaging. The tie tack for sale has never been out of the package - the one we photographed is a loose one we also have on offer.

We have several; a couple of these have cellophane that's unfolded or has a little tear. The packaging has yellowed a bit in the last 46 years. I'll send you the best I have. Else in excellent, unused condition. The pin itself is mint.

These turn up occasionally but, even living here in the Seattle area, I've never seen one in the original packaging before.

We stumbled into a lucky cache, and have 5 of these available, at $9 each.
(See below for unpackaged pins.)

Vintage Neckties

Incredible 5 Inch Wide Handpainted Swing Tie

This tie is one of a kind. This wildly colored tie measures a full 5" wide & is 100% silk. What's more, it is signed on the back! Predominantly brown, with yellow/gold, orange, & blue-green. It's 52" long.

The fabric tag reads, "Ty Craft Ltd. / Handmade / Made In Hollywood." The handwritten part reads, "Individually handpainted in Calif. by (taryties? tacyties?). Pure Silk." One word is illegible (at least to me). See the photos for details.

In very good condition, with a couple small stains to lining - front is unstained, looks fabulous! Sure to grab attention! One of a kind. $89

Swans 1940s Tie

Fabulous maroon tie has red swans swimming on a silvery pond, with sheltered by a graceful willow branch overhead. There's a checkerboard brocade design in the background to add some more pizzaz. Lined with white. The tag reads, "Linde / Made In / California / U.S.A. / Resilient." It's 54" long & a big 4 3/4" wide.

Forties Flower Vine Tie

Blue & white flowers & leaves on a white vine with yellow berries cascade down this burgundy tie. A leafy brocade design adds some zip. It's 4 1/4" wide, 52" in length.

The tag reads "The Bon Marche, Seattle." In very good condition. There is a bit of yellowing to the ivory lining, & one little nick at the end, most noticeable from back (see photos). $25.00

Wide Yellow Swing Tie

This one is pure sunshine yellow. And it's a full 5 inches wide! Length is 55 inches. The label reads, "Soley & Bachelder Mens Wear." Not sure what the fabric is, it feels like silk.

Eagles & Sailing Ships 1940s Tie

This one is just stunning. Sharp-beaked eagles soar through cloud-filled skies above what appear to be (Asian?) sailing boats. Likely a wartime tie, it is extremely eye catching. The color palette is rust, peach, periwinkle blue, and yellow. A wide 4 3/4" inches, and 52" long.

In good condition, has been gently used. There's a small brown spot in one cloud & a bit of light soiling to the white satin lining. The label reads "Regal Cravat / Favorite for Two Generations." Very unusual. $69

In very good condition with no flaws seen. Ready to go out on the town....$35

Red Check Silk Tie

The red & white check design in this tie is woven in. The silk is extremely soft, just melts in your hands. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

Gold Tie with Sky Blue & Green Chevrons

Wish I could come up with a snazzier name for this tie. Ah, well. It's a very snazzy tie. The background is a very rich gold; it is patterned with diagonal chevrons of dark green and sky blue. Very attractive. The label reads "65% Acetate / 35% Rayon / RN 34888." The RN number traces to Leeds Neckwear Ltd.

Measures 3.5" wide, and 56" in length. Beautifully made, it is in excellent condition. $20

Abstract Blue & Red Leaf Tie

Abstract pattern reminds me of leaves and features blue dots & red dots & swooshes outlined in white on a navy blue background. Probably from the 1930s. It's unlined.

Three labels. The first reads, "Shoucair & Sons / Seventh and Pike / Seattle." The second says, "Fashion Craft Cravats / Resilient Construction," under which a union label is sewn. wo labels & unlabeled, feels like acetate. Measures 48" long by 3 1/2 inches wide.

Farther up is a band of silver embellished with a brown, yellow, black & red design which echoes the one below. Very eye-catching, and just like new.

Skinny Silk Red & White Rockabilly Tie

Real attractive deep red tie made of silk, with a background texture of 4-pointed stars & a little pattern of what looks to me like a white martini glass with a cocktail pick sticking up out of the top. But maybe it's just that I'm in a Friday state of mind...

Two labels: "Martin & Eckmann / Seattle" and "All Silk." Martin & Eckmann was located for many years (the '40s & '50s) in Seattle's University District & sold quality clothing. The tie is unlined. In very good condition; a few pulled threads at one edge (in knot area); just clip 'em.

1950s Bow Tie - in Package

Here's an attractive clip-on plaid bow tie, still in its original package. Made by Fruit of the Loom, it's predominantly blue & white with a little red running through. Probably from the 1950s.

The package shows some soling & wear - plastic is separating from backing at top & there's a split in the plastic at bottom, some creasing to cardboard. The bow tie is, of course, in new, unused condition. As always, click on photo at left for a larger view. Add some vintage pizzaz to your suit for just $6.
