Heath Gills Needle Book

Heath & Gills 1914 Needle Book

Not just folded paper like so many needle books; this one has a fancy, textured, green marbled paper cover which is padded. It's printed in gold, with the silhouette of a girl framed in hearts, and the word NEEDLES.

When folded closed it's about 3/8" inch thick, 5 1/8" tall, by 3 1/4" wide. It's lined in a peach moire paper.

Inside, on the left are places for an Aug. Thomas Needle Threader, and 6 needles, which are not present. The needleholder is made of dark blue paper, and has a fancy gold moire paper band that reads, "Patent No 1088057, Feb. 24, 1914. Made in Czechoslavakia."

On the right side is a folder, dark blue paper printed in gold, that holds needles sized 7, 5 & 6. Some are missing, but 18 are still present. A few show some corrosion. The folder is elaborately decorated and reads, "Heath & Gills Superfine Needles. Gold Eyes. Patented August 11, 1914, No. 1106773. Czechoslavakia."

In lovely condition, showing traces of wear at edges & to the gold decoration on front cover.

A beautiful addition to your needle books collection. $12

Red & White Plastic Darner

Red & White Plastic Darner

Way cool old darner is red on one side & white on the other. Hollow, it likely dates from the 1950s or 60s.

In very good condition. If you look closely you can see stress lines in the white plastic, but this should not cause a problem; seems quite solid & will work fine for normal use.

Measures approximately 6 inches long, by about 2 inches at widest spot.

Don't you just love vintage plastics? Add this one to your collectionf for just $8.00

Cherokee, North Carolina Pin Cushion

Cherokee, North Carolina Pin Cushion

This cute little 3-legged pincushion is made of cedar, and is a souvenir of Cherokee, NC, which is right in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. The fabric is green, with red & ivory (probably once white) flowers.

It measures about 2.5" inches wide and stands just shy of 2" inches tall. Likely from the 40s or 50s.

In very good condition; wood has darkened somewhat and shows light wear. The pincushion itself is a bit lopsided and has pin holes.

A darling addition to your pincushion collection! $5

Clinton Snap Fasteners

Clinton Snap Fasteners

This is a full card of 12 rustproof Clinton Snap Fasteners, size 2-0. Made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. Each snap measures 5/16" inch in diameter. Though silvertone, the card says they are made of brass.

The back of the card gives instructions, and even provides a handy ruler. As always, click the small image at left for larger images. Probably ca. 1920s. $4

Florida Sewing Machine Distribution Ruler

Florida Sewing Machine Distrib. Advertsing Ruler

Here's an old ruler - there's no zip code in the address, and the phone number is given as "PL 1-7624." It's an advertising ruler for Florida Sewing Machine Distrib. The ruler advertises: Sales, Rentals, Repairs, Parts & Attachments for All Machines. The address is 8129 N. E. 2nd Avenue, Miama 38, Florida. (Yep, it really does say "Miama" - looks like the printer goofed!).

A nice little 6" wooden ruler, still very usable or a neat addition to your vintage sewing notions or ruler collection. Click the photo to see the whole thing.
