Galley Grub 1949 Cookbook

1949 Galley Grub Cookbook
by Women's Auxiliary Power Squadron

Published in 1949 in Seattle, WA, this swell little 130-page cookbook is chock full of easy & delicious recipes. There are a few pages of ads in the back.

The introduction reads, in part: "Galley Grub is the combined effort of the Womens Auxiliary of the Seattle Power Squadron....By 1941 the first edition of Galley Grub was published with all the war shortages apparent from the recipes in the sea-going cook book. This new revision is the culmination of numerous fishing derby policings, island festivals, Power Squadron rendezvous, pedicted log races, vacation & overnight cruises. During this time galley gossip circulated along side, filtered into the cockpit and drifted into the galley of every ship anchorage."

Some of the dishes are named for local places: Nanaimo Speical, Cheese Souffle Pt. Defiance, Olympia Oyster, Fish Possession, Smelts Columbia, Salmonburgers Deception, Quilcene Fish Pot. Categories include fish, shellfish, vegetables, meats, desserts, beverages, soups, lots more. How about "Ham Baked with Cola" or "Lobster Pepperpot?" Click for the photo at left for sample recipes. In good condition, with some bends & wear. Comb-bound so it lays flat. $19.99
